Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, and Hatshepsut Temple
Visit Luxor’s most famous attractions on the West Bank of the Nile and experience the ancient
history of Egypt…
Explore the most famous sights in Luxor West Bank accompanied by an experienced private tour
guide. On this private morning tour from Luxor, you will travel back in time and experience the
ancient history of Egypt in the Valley of the Kings and at the Hatshepsut Temple. As this is a private tour, you can determine how much time you wish to spend at the sites you visit.
After crossing the Nile to the West Bank, you will visit the necropolis of the ancient city of Thebes.
Upon arrival at the Valley of the Kings, the burial ground of the kings of Thebes (ancient Luxor),
you will make a short stop at the visitor center. Guides are not permitted inside the tombs, but your
guide will tell you what to look for in the richly decorated chambers. Here you can optionally visit
the tomb of King Tutankhamun (for an additional charge).
Leaving the hot sand of the Valley of the Kings, you will visit the Valley of the Queens, a site in
Egypt where wives of pharaohs were buried in antiquity. The valley is located near the more famous
Valley of the Kings on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Thebes (modern Luxor). This necropolis
is believed to contain more than seventy tombs, many of which are stylishly and elaborately
decorated. An example is the rock-cut resting place for Queen Nefertari (1290-1224 BC) of the 19th
Dynasty (which is currently unfortunately closed). The polychrome reliefs in her tomb are still
intact.
Next, you will visit the Hatshepsut Temple, one of the most striking monuments in Egypt. Your
guide will introduce you to the history of the temple and the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the famous
ruler of Egypt who disguised herself as a man to ascend the throne. You will have free time to
explore the grand courtyards and admire the intricate hieroglyphic inscriptions.
As you return to Luxor, you will have time for a brief photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, where
the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III once stood. These two colossal statues, standing tall and
proud in the West Bank, are all that remain of the ancient complex. You will also have the
opportunity to visit an alabaster factory and purchase original items if desired. After the completion
of your tour, you will be driven back to your hotel.
